Bankrate staff insights

"I've used Huntington Bank as my primary bank for over a decade and have always appreciated how easy it is to conduct my financial business through them. Huntington’s early pay feature means my direct deposit comes up two days early, which is nice to have," said a Bankrate staff member and accountholder. "Though, I’ve generally had to look elsewhere to earn a competitive interest rate on my emergency fund savings."

About Huntington Bank

Founded in 1866, The Huntington National Bank offers a full range of products and services, including deposit accounts, wealth management and insurance. It merged with TCF Financial Corp. in 2021 and now operates more than 1,000 branches in 11 states, mainly in the Midwest and the South.

How does Huntington Bank compare with other banks?

Huntington National Bank vs. Chase Bank

Huntington National Bank has approximately 1,200 locations across 11 states. In contrast, Chase Bank, one of the largest banks in the country, has nearly 5,000 across 49 states. As such, if you’re looking for a bank with a large branch network, Chase may be the better choice.

Both banks offer similar yields on many of their deposit products, including their standard CDs and savings accounts. (Yields at both banks are very low; higher yields are easily found elsewhere.) That noted, Chase doesn’t offer a money market account, but Huntington Bank does.

Review methodology

With so many financial institutions to choose from, it can be hard to know who to trust. Bankrate’s ever-growing list of bank and credit union reviews is updated regularly. Our editorial team analyzes and reviews each institution across deposit products such as savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs) and money market accounts (MMAs). Banks are rated by important factors such as offered interest rates, fees, minimum balance requirements, access to funds and more.

We assign a score to each type of account and its features, weigh them carefully based on importance to account holders and determine an overall score. Read our full review methodology.
